First Round of College World Series

College World Series First Round Games

The First Round games are complete after sunday with not too many surprises. Texas dropped its' first game to Florida after taking a 3-0 lead with their ace Taylor Jungmann on the hill. Florida was not intimidated and ended up winning their first game 8-4.

Vanderbilt, in their first College World Series appearance ever, defeated the more experienced University of North Carolina Tar Heels 7-3.

In the other bracket the top ranked Virginia Cavaliers defeated the Cal Goldern Bears 4-1 and the defending champion South Carolina Gamecocks squeezed past the Texas A&M Aggies 5-4.

Texas A&M like their rival Texas took an early lead at 4-0 in this first inning but immediately gave up four runs in the bottom of the first inning to South Carolina. The Gamecocks scored the only run for either team the rest of the way.

The second round games being today (Monday) the matchups will involve bracket one with Texas and UNC in an elimination game while the saturday winners Vanderbilt and Florida play in a re-match of the SEC Tournament Championship game.

Tuesday's games will be bracket two with South Carolina/Virginia and Texas A&M/ Cal in the elimination game.
